Welcome to the Sustainable Communities Forum

June 20th, 2008

What would you like to see happen in your local community?

  • post offices saved
  • local food promoted
  • local businesses supported
  • green spaces protected
  • pollution reduced

These are just some of the ideas that Local Authorities will be able to propose to the Government from October 2008.

Amongst other things, the Sustainable Communities Act has the potential to ensure that:

  • our communities continue to provide us with the services we need
  • the character and beauty of ‘individual’ high streets is preserved
  • the local environment is not only protected but enhanced
  • and that local businesses continue to flourish

We can all make a difference by participating in this process

From October 2008 Local Authorities will be invited by the Government to put forward ideas for their local communities.  This is our chance to make our voices heard on the issues that matter to us.

Together with Local Works, the Sustainable Communities Trust will be working to ensure that Local Authorities are aware of the importance of this Act, and that as many people as possible take part in the process through citizens’ panels.

Please check back here regularly for updates, to join the discussion, and to suggest your own ideas for sustainable communities.
